Education and Training

Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty

Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve

Provides education benefits to those who serve in reserve elements of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard. http://www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/CH1606/CH1606_Pamphlet_General.htm

Veterans Educational Assistance Program

Provides similar education benefits as those under the Montgomery GI Bill programs, but applies only to individuals who first entered active duty between January 1, 1977 and June 30, 1985 and elected to participate by making contributions from their military pay. http://www.gibill.com/Veap.cfm

Tuition Assistance "Top-Up"

Provides tuition assistance to veterans for educational programs approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. http://www.gibill.com/topup.cfm

Survivors' and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program

Provides eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-connected condition, educational benefits for up to 45 months. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. Spouses are entitled to take a correspondence course. Vocational Rehabilitation Programs

Provides veterans who suffered a service-connected disability or disabilities in active service employment assistance, self-employment assistance, training in a rehabilitation facility, college enrollment, and other training. http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/vre/index.htm

Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS)

Provides grants administered by the Department of Labor to each state employment and training services to eligible veterans. http://www.dol.gov/vets/

  • Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP)

    Provides job and training opportunities for veterans with special emphasis on veterans with service-connected disabilities. DVOP specialists are employed by the Department of Labor and provide direct services to veterans enabling them to be competitive in the labor market. http://www.dol.gov/vets/welcome.html

  • Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP)

    Supports employment and training programs, through grants or contracts, to meet the needs for workforce investment activities of veterans with service-connected disabilities, veterans who have significant barriers to employment, veterans who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized, and recently separated veterans.
